With Valentine's Day soon upon us, "Advocate" magazine has posted some fifty photos and drawings of a variety of gay couples showing affection (sometimes intensely) to each other. See Photo at left and link below.
Valentine's roots are in the ancient Roman festival of Lupercalia, a fertility (sexy) celebration commemorated annually on February 15. Pope Gelasius I baptized this pagan festival into a Christian feast day circa 496 CE, declaring February 14 to be St. Valentine's Day.
And what about the hearts drawn for love's holiday? The shape is nothing like a human heart, and the best guess is that the top part of the drawing represented the buttocks of one's lover, male or female.
