Utah holds title to most religious of all fifty US State. The Church of Latter Day Saints (The Mormons) is located in the center of the city from which all streets spread in every direction. Now one of those streets has been named after a Jewish gay activist and martyr, Harvey Milk. Remember that the Mormon Church spent millions of tax free dollars successfully fighting to get gay marriage overturned in California, which in turn, the US Supreme Court overturned. Now the most pious, homophobic, Mormon souls will have to walk, work, drive or address mail to a street named to honor their apostate foe. (At left: Harvey Milk 1930-1978)

How on earth (or heaven) did his happen? Salt Lake, like most large US cities, has gathered into its welcoming arms gay people from across its beautiful state. Big US cities have been historically good to gay people, and gay people have returned the favor by sharing their talents, creativity, and humane insights. The Salt Lake City Mayor is gay. Other politicians are openly or suspected of gay friendly leanings by going against the LDS religious prejudices and homophobia.

This gay friendly trend extends to state capitals and big cities even deep in the southern "Bible Belt" where gay people are finding they may have to flee their rural birth area, but they can find a refuge in their cities and not be forced to leave their home states.
