Things are Getting Religiously Screwy in Kentucky

MOREHEAD, Ky. (AP) Huffingtonpost: A Kentucky clerk's office turned away a gay couple seeking a marriage license on Thursday, defying a federal judge's order that dismissed her argument involving religious freedom just hours after a U.S. district judge ordered her to do the opposite.

Deputy clerk Nathan Davis says the office was advised by its attorneys with the Christian law firm Liberty Counsel to continue refusing same-sex couples as it appeals the ruling to the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals. How many people in Kentucky (and many other states) missed the day in school when they taught what the US Constitution says and how the US Government works? I have to ask, WTF is going on when a person working for city, state, or the Federal governments thinks his or her religious beliefs overrule the Constitution and the laws of the land?

You can bet your ass had she turned down a Jewish couple because her religion taught they were going to hell, it would have hit the fan. But no, regardless of civil rights, she thinks she is the ultimate moral and law maker, and there is a "Christian" law firm encouraging her to stick by her religious convictions. So here we have it: She is going to court on something she believes some Hebrew priest said 2500 years ago and the US Constitution can be damned.

Refusing to obey a court order can be expensive when the issue is as clear cut as this one. If the judge decides to fine the city $5,000 a day until she is in compliance, I wonder if her quoting the Bible Book of Leviticus will influence the judge or compensate for the cost of a crazy and unconstitutional conviction.
