Not Gay: Sex between Straight White Men, by Jane Ward is the title of a book about the phenomenon of straight males having gay sex with other straight males. Our knee jerk reaction is that these guys are not straight if they are sucking on someone else's male member. But it turns out this queer behavior among straight males is not that unusual. The African American males have termed it "On the Down Low." Apparently, the practice has jumped the colored barrier, or that we are just now finding about it. The traditional "grab ass" phrase used to describe locker room activity, may have some serious homo-eroticism behind (or in front) of it. For all its macho apparence, what could be gay-like than football or wrestling?

One group of investigating gay men found in one night a dozen requests on "Craig's List" from men who said they were straight and whose girl friend was out of town (or some such excuse) and would like to perform oral sex on another straight guy. The gay investigators went back a week later and found more of the same requests from straight men.

Hard as all this may be to accept, when you think back on college fraternities, past and present, their initiation events almost always include some homoerotic activity. Psychologists say this is youths' last stand against becoming an adult, a cast back to puberty, and playing "doctor" with male mates one last time. But what about straight males in the years after college who still wanted to have sex with another straight male? Is it repressed homosexuality or still a battle against taking on the duties of a heterosexual man?
