When I saw the first ever fully gay movie "The Boys in the Band" back in 1970, I laughed so hard my head hurt. The film was a turning point in presenting gay characters in the movie industry, the gayest business on the planet. The work started as an off Broadway play, but the film was shown in first run movie theaters to rave reviews. Interestingly, all the actors from the theater play were used in the movie.

In recent years there have been "politically correct" criticisms from gay people about the movie, but when a story is about stereotypical gay characters, how can you "butch" them up and still have a story? Trust me, these type of gay people were chock a block in the 1960s gay areas. We non stereotypical gays were all safely hiding in our various closets.
