What may be the oldest film of gay men at play in the 1940s has turned up in the estate of a dead man. Fortunately, it was found by a gay man. Otherwise it would have destroyed and another piece of gay history would have met an end at the hands of an uncaring straight man. Perhaps shocking to some, the pool party was not in NYC or Gay California but rather in Missouri, which is about as "middle American" as you can get. In the film one man grabs another man and kisses him passionately.

Remember this was 1945 when the most world wide photographed straight kiss happened in Times Square when a sailor grabbed a young lady and kissed her. That photo has been made into a statue. It is not likely that anyone will make a statue of two gay men kissing in 1945, but for other gay men this 73 year old film tells us that forever and always there have been gay men enjoying, loving, celebrating, and embracing life.
