Many older Apollo men have memories of the gay bathhouses growing widely popular following the Stonewall riots. If a guy couldn't pick up a trick in the a bar, he could always make out in a bathhouse for a few dollars more.

Even married men and so-called straight business men could slip into a bathhouse under relative safety. Some bathhouses enjoyed two sets of clientele. When the sun was shining it was straight; when the sun went down, the gays came out.

It is believed that between the end of WW II and the onset of AIDS, more sex was happening in Bathhouses than in bedrooms on a daily bases.
