There's a reason that so many cultures and religions celebrate in December, and it has nothing to do with its being the last month of the year. In ancient times it was not the last month.

Celebrations in December were started to mark the beginning of winter in the northern hemisphere. Ancient people set bonfires, lit torches, got drunk, and probably screwed on the darkest day of the year. It was man's way of waving a finger at old man winter.

The Christian church did not know the date of the birth of Jesus for 500 years after the his birth, and the priests chose December to compete with other pagan's events.

So whether a person considers December a religious or secular event, it remains the number one month of eating, drinking, and being merry as we face the dreary days ahead. Happy Holidays to everyone!
