(The quote at left is by Stephen Hawking, the Einstein of our century.)
When I was a senior in high school, I took a class in typing (on a manual typewriter) because I knew I was going to college. Even though I did not own or have access to a typewriter, I thought it might come in handy. Only a few other male students were in the class. Typing was regarded as women's work. I soldiered my way through the experience and did rather well, ignoring derogatory and surprised comments from friends and family. I think of those days of learning and adapting to that new skill now when I take my car to a garage for repairs and a burly mechanic wipes the grease off his fingers to type on his key board to search for a needed part for my car.
At some not too future date, gay people will be as ordinarily accepted as is typing on a keyboard and all our current political/religious homophobic stupidities will be a puzzlement to intelligent people who have adapted to the ever evolving process of change.
