Thomas Roberts became the first openly gay man to anchor a nightly news television program on Saturday on NBC. Roberts hosts a news program on MSNBC as do other gay people on cable like MSNBC's Rachel Maddow, CNN's Anderson Cooper and Don Lemon, but Roberts is the first one to anchor one of the big three networks. Roberts is planning to marry his male partner in September.

NBC has long been a gay friendly broadcasting company starting back in the 1990s with "Will and Grace" where on one show Sean Hayes' character said, "Of course, NBC is gay. It's logo is a gay colored peacock." While the joke is funny, its history is off. In fact, a homophobic man recently accused NBC of changing to gay colors after the US Supreme Court ruling supporting gay marriage. In fact, NBC recolored its logo back in the 1970s using popular colors found in any crayon box.

All this aside, best wishes to Thomas Roberts, your upcoming marriage, and future appearances on NBC. We'll be watching.
