More Gay and Straight Woes of the Vatican

After innumerable law suits over child molestations, you would think Catholic priests would keep it in their frocks and get on their knees only to pray or at least have sex just with each other and never, never go sex shopping on the Internet. Not so. Sexual scandals involving priests, one accused of murdering his female paramour, are rife in Italy, the mother land of Catholicism. One priest has admitted searching for gay sex on line, a search that landed him, not only Catholic Church officials but also some of the toothsome Vatican Swiss Guards. (See Photo above.)

Before there are accusations of Catholic bashing here, let us admit that the largest Christian Church in the world is having a hell of a time getting the actions of its official churchmen to follow the teachings of its official dogmas. Two areas that touch on ecclesiastic sexual problems are, first, no sex for the priests and, second, no gay sex for everybody else.

Celibacy has been a Catholic practice for a thousand years, but it has not served the Catholics well. Five hundred years ago when the Protestant priests got out of the Catholic Church, they immediately got in bed with women. Yes, there are gay Protestant clergymen, but child sexual molestation is a grain of sand in that religion compared to Catholicism.

The no gay sex policy has not served the Pope's church well either. In the Middle Ages they tried to burn all the gays at the stake, but that did not work, so they just damned them to a future burning in hell. The unreasonable policy of celibacy has, in fact, made the church a haven for gay men who no longer have to explain why they are not married.

Refusing to allow straight marriage for priests and denying the reality of gay people are only acerbating their problems. For more, click on MSN News
