No better proof exists that the gay movement is on the march around the world than the little country of Nepal, officially the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal. Living on the the Himalayan top of the world and home to the largest mountain on earth, Nepal in the 21st Century turned to a republic form of government. Sunil Pant serves as the first and only openly gay member of Nepal's parliament. (For the record, the first openly gay member of the US Congress was 200 years after the country's founding.)
At Right: Sunil Pant is on gay breaking grounds at the top of the world.
Not only is Sunil Pant an elected member of the Nepal Parliament, he actively pursues passing gay friendly laws and supports the gay community in his country, throughout Asia, and was involved in the NYC Gay Pride Parade this year.
It gets better. Nepal has appointed a commission to look into establishing legal gay marriage for its citizens. When and if this happens, Nepal will be the first country in Asia to allow same sex marriage.
This is mind blowing when you think about it. An ancient county used to kings turns democratic in this century and immediately addresses itself to the issues of all its people, gay and straight. This doubtlessly has happened in no small part to Sunil Pant who proudly serves his country as an gay politician. (For more on Sunil Pant, Click Here.
