Good and Bad News for Gay People
Posted by: Ron @ Tuesday, August 17th 2010 @ 11:08:09 AM EST

A California Appeals Court reversed a decision that would allow gay people to resume marriage this week. The court's action is as puzzling as it is damaging. The defendant's case was based on religious myths about gay people and had nothing to do with the US Constitution.

Doubtlessly, the gay marriage issue will go all the way to the US Supreme Court, but this week's decision will be a case of justice delayed for another year. Also, it will encourage the religious right to pander for more money to fight the rights of gay people.

The eventual out come of gay marriage is written in letters large on the wall. When even Glenn Beck admits that he sees no harm in gay marriage, you know the homophobic rats are abandoning the ship.

The good news comes from Mexico where its Supreme Court has ruled 9-2 that gay couple adoption poses no harm for the adopted children. The opposition backed by the RC Church maintained that gay adoption denies the children the chance to grow up in a "traditional family." Apparently the RC Church feels that it would be better for the children to remain unadopted and live in a poverty stricken "traditional" slum.

The real question is this: In the US where main line Protestant denominations are taking a broader view on gay people, why are we dragging our feet on gay issues while Catholic dominated countries like Spain and Mexico have legalized gay marriage? It is a truly a mystery.
