Trivializing a Tragedy
Posted by: Ron @ Thursday, January 14th 2010 @ 03:45:26 PM EST

Once again a big mouth televangelist, whose hateful name will not be mentioned on this site, has stepped up to announce that his wrathful god sent a killing earthquake on the country of Haiti because "the Haitian people made a pack with Satan."

This is wrong on so many levels, that it is difficult to know where even to begin.

  • Theologically, what kind of benevolent god would willingly allow thousands of innocent children to be crushed to death because of some evil their parent or politicians committed?
  • What kind of truly spiritual person would take comfort and make profit in the suffering of others?
  • Who truly knows the mind of his or anyone else's god?
  • Who can speak for his god or explain the tragic vicissitudes of life?
  • Why do people listen to, believe, or support religionists who pull notions out of their butts?

For the record, this same senile televangelist said that 9/11 was his god's punishment on the USA because of homosexuality. Also, years ago, he claimed that his prayers saved coastal Virginia from a hurricane that went inland instead, causing damage to the unfortunately people for whom he had not prayed.

The real sin here is that a man who has made tens of millions of dollar on his "television ministry" is so heartless as to trivialize and pontificate on the honest tragedies of other people.

People of good hearts and true piety will send their donations to the Haitian people, not their condemnations.
