Boston: Charlie Baker, an openly gay Republican (pictured at right), has thrown his hat in the ring for the 2010 gubernatorial election in Massachusetts.. But wait. It gets better. He has chosen another openly gay man, Richard Tisei, as his running mate.
Richard Tiseir is a State Senator who fought successfully to keep gay marriage legal in the Bay State.
American politics, as Lewis Carroll would say, gets stranger and stranger. An openly gay Republican Governor is mind boggling in a party that is chockful of gay politicians, everyone of whom is deeply closeted. To have two gay men on the ticket is unheard of.
Could this be a trend, namely politicians coming out of the closet and running for office? Do not hold your breath. It won't happen in "Dixie" for another hundred years.
In the mean time, Charlie Baker, for all this good looks and being gay, faces stiff opposition from the straight Democratic gubernatorial candidate in Massachusetts.
