Yesterday I wrote about the importance of the Maine vote to sustain gay legal marriage. Sadly, it lost, but the good news is how close the vote was when you consider how heated was the issue. Who would have thought just five years ago that over 47 percent of any state's population would vote in favor of gay marriage?
The good news is that this only shows that gay marriage will eventually win. Which of the voters are likely to change their minds, those against or those in favor? Truly, once someone's eyes are open to the gay rights issue, they will not vote against them. And with the increase of young voters, this number will doubtlessly increase. The only loss will be among those who voted against gay marriage.
Let the anti gay people have their celebration this morning, but they have only temporarily achieved better deck chairs on a sinking ship.
