Although not a gay man, Director/Actor Sydney Pollack who died this week gave the gay community and the world many wonderful and heartfelt laughs. I cannot image a gay man in any free country not seeing and loving Tootsie. It was not a gay movie, but its gender bending scenes were right up there with Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night. His acting on finding that Dustin Hoffman was in drag in the Russian Tea Room was dead on in what one would expect from a straight man. Additionally, he played Will's father in the long running gay television series Will and Grace. Sydney Pollack will be missed.
