A gay Veteran speaks against DADT
Posted by: Ron @ Thursday, February 4th 2010 @ 09:52:00 AM EST

Ron: I am a honorably discharged 100% disabled Vet. I think this whole issue is a sham. We have a thing call the Uniform Code of Military Justice. It's was our law code, including sexual activity. That part of the UCMJ is a sham. We are not suppose to have affairs, no sex that isn't between married individuals, and that is just suppose to be "normal sex." No oral sex or sodomy. I was in the Navy, and that part of the UCMJ was always being violated by heteros. Then a gay sailor is caught having "unnatural sex." They throw the book at him and he ends up in Levinworth, while hetero's are free to do as they please. It's a hypocrisy. (At Right: Leonard Matlovich receives the first Air Force Commendation Medal in 1966. Later he came out and was featured on TIME Mag. cover story.)

I hope Obama and that commission can do something, but I am afraid that what he is trying to do will just be ignored by the powers that be, and by other soldiers, sailors, and airmen.

From Ron: Your comments are good and timely. This week Colin Powell, former Chief of Staff to the president and also Secretary of State, has announced his support for ending Don't Ask: Don't Tell.

To Ron: Please know that I enjoy your site and getting your monthly news correspondence. I read everything from current events, editorials, opinions, library stories, forums, medical questions and advice, member polls, and view all the photo galleries, jokes, obituaries and testimonials to the deceased etc.

From Ron:Thank you so much for your good words. Hector and I do a lot of work and writing, and it pleases me to know that some people are enjoying the site and thinking about what we are doing and saying. We do not expect people to agree with everything we do, but we want them to know that we are working to help make them and the gay community a better place to live. All our lives we gay men have thought a certain way about being gay. Now we have to embrace a whole new outlook.
