To Ron: Regarding your posting about the Russian Orthodox Church, I was at an ordination about 25 years ago, and the Bishop was from Russia; at the following dinner he entertained questions from the crowd, and he was asked if the Orthodox Church would have troubles over gay clergy like the Roman Catholic and Anglican churches did.
"Nyet," he replied, "We've excommunicated all the gays."
The people in the hall stood up and cheered.
From what I hear from a friend in Romania (in the Romanian language, to be a citizen of Romania and to be a member of the Orthodox Church is the same word), things haven't changed that much.
To Ron: You've heard about the draconian laws against homosexuality proposed in Uganda, and supported in Nigeria? And how the local Anglican prelates are all in favor of the anti gay laws?
It was noted in disgust in the USA that the Archbishop of Canterbury denounced the election of a lesbian in a relationship as a Bishop in Los Angeles within minutes of the election results, BUT the Archbishop still has not condemned the anti-gay laws in Africa, weeks after bishops there announced their support.
From Ron: Yes, even members of both parties in the US Congress have spoken against the harsh anti gay laws of Uganda, but the leading clergymen around the world do not seem to have the moral balls to side with the angels.
