About Gay Pride Parades
Posted by: Ron @ Friday, July 4th 2008 @ 07:41:50 AM EST

To Ron:  Although these events do not project the full public image we would like to see for gay men and women, they are catalysts for public discussions of what the gay life is. They have created remarkable progress in acceptance of the IDEA that the world is home to millions who share same-sex attraction as one of their human attributes. (At Right: In Sao Paulo they do it with balloons. 2.5 million Brazilians turned out to see the Pride Parade.)

Many gay men are not effeminate. More than a few straight men are transvestites. We simply have to accept the stereotypical images, even those promoted by the outrageous costumes and shenanigans at Gay Pride events. Gay men and women contribute tremendously to society but receive little recognition. The Gay Pride events force society in general to look at those accomplishments -- along with the foolishness and humor.

From Ron: Thank you for your good thoughts. I hope you and everyone will vote in the Apollo Poll on the right side of this screen.
