To Ron: Did you hear about the Cardinal-Archbishop of Detroit kicking out the gays of Catholic Seminaries? He asked confessors and spiritual directors, who are supposed to be under the Seal of Confession, to rat out their counselees. (At Right: Famous gay movie star of yore playing a cleric in Alfred Hitchcocks movie, I Confess.)
BUT when Michigan passed a law that people who are in a position to notice child abuse (whether sexual, emotional, physical, etc., like doctors, nurses, teachers, even school bus drivers and lunch ladies in school) and expanded it to include Clergy, the Church mounted a 1st Amendment challenge to the bill (which failed because the desire to protect children was regarded more important than priests keeping quiet). So violating confessional seal is OK to out gays, not OK to identify child molesters.
From Ron: Apparently, there is no depth to which homophobic people, clergy or laity, will stoop when it comes to treating gay people shamefully.
