To Ron: I read your "20 years" ago column, and found it astonishing how much life has changed. My work is all done with PC's and laptops over the Internet, or company intra nets: my job did not exist 20 years ago. My sister and I have described 8-tracks and 33-1/3 and 45 rpm records to her sons and my godsons, and how VHS recorders used to (a) not exist, and then (b) were originally so expensive most people didn't buy them, and they give us a "go on, you're kidding" kind of response. Since they know have DVR and have known CD's and MP3's ever since they could remember, and they had computers in elementary school, they also ask us what it was really like on the mastodon hunts. -Rick
From Ron: Rick, The bane of of us older folks is the arrogance of youth, but I find comfort in thinking that the shoe will be on the other foot in forty years, and they will be on the receiving end for another generation's mouthy remarks. It's the way the world turns.
