To Ron: In that era, we had to be brave when it came to dating. Why be untrue to ourselves and get stuck with a woman we really did not love and be overwhelmed with bills and put ourselves in debt? (At Right: Masculine movie star idol of the 1950s, Tab Hunter, who turned out to be gay.)
It was tough when I finally told my "girl friend" why I was not interested in going to bed with her, and why I was not available on weekends. I was honest and told her that I was gay. She was horrified, cried and got her family involved, who in turn hated me. (for being honest???) 0h...it was in the 50's.
Not long ago she contacted me and went on and on about how she was a "Christian Woman" and thought it was disgusting that I had settled with a male companion. After listening to her pious insults, I said: "SO MANY CHRISTIANS. SO FEW LIONS" It was a good way of getting rid of her. I never heard from her again and am glad of it! -Bill
