Hi Doc, and thanks for contributing to the website. I can no longer get an erection, and even with that, I could masturbate until about a year ago. I believed that when you reach my age that you just dry up. I also noted that a couple friends of mine about this age, and had an operation on their prostate, told me that they now had "internal ejaculations"......all the sensation, but no expulsion of liquid.
I have had no operation, but this is what's going on with me. Should I consult a urologist, or is this a normal transition that comes with age? My PSA seems to be in the "normal" range, but I've also heard you can't rely on this number as the test is not considered to be fool-proof. Do you agree with that?
Hi Ray, Blood flow hydraulics create erections essentially through a valve system run by nerves. Diabetics especially can have problems with erections at an early age. Hypertension can also affect the system. Pushing the nitric oxide mediator with drugs such as Viagra and Levitra, can push the system and help erections if there are no cardiovascular issues to worry about. Viagra vigor and penile Levitation.
If the prostate is a cause i would expect you would also have difficulty urinating as well. The PSA numbers would rarely be indicators for decreasing seminal flow.
I would think it prudent to visit a urologist to establish that there is no serious condition and possibly a simple remediable cause. -Ellar, M.D.
