Peyronies Disease and Vitamins
Posted by: Ellar @ Wednesday, March 19th 2008 @ 10:05:49 AM EST

Dear Doc, I went to a urologist to inquire if I had Peyronies. One quick squeeze of my penis and he said yes. (My partner had already made the same prognosis by the same procedure, but it was good to get it from a professional.)

The doctor recommended daily vitamin E, a multi-vitamin, and a baby aspirin. I told him I take a fist full of vitamins daily, but he was not encouraging. He even said the calcium may adversely affect the Peyronies. I guess the vitamin issue is touching with us old timers who like to take them, but I would like your views on vitamins. They are costly and if mass doses are not needed, I could use the money on more important things, like a good Scotch Whisky. -Yours, Ron

Dear Ron, I am not a big believer in vitamins. I believe in eating a very colorful diet. There are times when vitamins can help. (I think women need them for their periods. Also, there was a time that pregnant women drank Guineas as a vitamin.)

Also, on a very restrictive diet you may not get all the necessary vitamins. I think you need to consciously think about a calcium source. I tend to eat cups of nonfat cottage cheese and nonfat vanilla yogurt that I try to convince myself is ice cream. The latter with a few drops of fruit extracts tastes even better.

I'd buy the Johnny Walker Black or a single malt. Yours, Ellar, M.D.
