The USA Today published a chart (at right) showing a poll which revealed acceptance of gay people in the USA by region. Check it and be prepared for a shock. The highest percentage of acceptance is in New England followed by the westernmost states including conservative Alaska.

The lowest acceptance rates are not in the southern "bible belt" states where even Texas shows a 52% acceptance rate. The Plain States and the Great Lakes regions are the only areas that fall below the 50% mark.

Over half the country is now on the side of gay people, and this despite the rhetoric foaming from the mouths of clergy, talk show hosts, and politicians who continue to reap money and votes from the unenlightened and the homophobes.
