After a year in the USA, we are worn out talking about government health insurance, but no one has seriously talked about insurance for gay couples, and it is one kind of health insurance that the big insurance companies really want to provide, but they are often forbidden by state laws.
(At Right: Partners (us) at Mt Vernon, the first President's home.)
The reason health insurance companies want to insure gay couples is for the money. It is the most profitable. When I had a government job in Virginia, the insurance rate nearly double for a married couple, and it did not matter how many children they had. So a couple with no children or ten children paid the same insurance amount.
Gay couples, who usually have no children. would be far more more profitable to insure, and wherever they can, health insurance companies are happy to insure gay couples.
Every year when I have a chance to choose a new health insurance provider, I call my insurance headquarters and ask if they can insurance my partner on my policy. Last year I got a tight assed homophobic clerk who told me that it was illegal everywhere to insure gay people, which was a lie, but I'm used to hearing lies about gay people.
It's time for us all to start looking for ways to expose these lies and get the same financial securities that straight couples receive.
