Christmas Charity Versus Defeating Gay Marriage
Posted by: Ron @ Sunday, December 20th 2009 @ 11:17:55 AM EST

People against legalizing gay marriage in Maine ponied up $3,800,000 to block a law permitting gay marriage passed by their legislatures and signed by their governor. But that is small potatoes compared to around 30 million that the Mormons and Knights of Columbus plunked down to over turn gay marriage in California.

Has anyone stoped to ask if religious groups might better spend their millions of tax free dollars on things suggested by their Bible, like feeding and clothing the poor and providing housing for the homeless?

In the USA millions, not thousands, of children live in poverty. They go without proper nourishment and clothing. This very day many are freezing in the current east coast blizzard with no hope for a Merry Christmas.

Yet, millions of tax free dollars are going to "charities" to fight the civil rights of gay people. And the chairmen of these so called family values groups are making mega bucks. Has anyone seen a hungry televangelist or a board chairman of religious rights group that did not live in a mansion? Not likely.

Charity organizations in American were given tax free status to do charity work. Now that they are doing political work, isn't it time to take away their tax exceptions?

Also the question is begged, why don't they just pray that their god will defeat gay marriage or any other issue that they are paying millions of dollars on? Would not it be fair to say that they trust their money more than their deity? Cannot heaven work without political TV ads and yard signs?

Many a hungry child and cold adult will be suffering through Christmas this year because religious charity had been given to political causes instead.
