When outing closeted gay public figures became the rage back in the 1990s, I had some reservations and still do.

However, what the "outing" did was drag out of the closet a host of gay politicians that were promoting and enacting laws against gay people. These hypocrites should have been outed and shamed by gays and straights alike. (At Right: South Carolina Lt. Governor André Bauer who is possibly gay and possibly the next Governor of the "The Palmetto State.")

Then there is the hilarious enjoyment the whole country has enjoyed over some of these political outings as when a homophobic politician was caught trying to seduce a police office in an airport toilet and blamed it on his feet tapping when moving his bowels. There's a joke that keeps on giving.

Currently, there is a kind of reverse outing going on in the State of South Carolina where, as everyone on the planet knows, the Governor has been flying to Argentina on the state's dime to have an adulterous affair with a woman.

In moral indignation against him is the entire state of South Carolina, a state well documented for its conservative religiosity. His wife and kids have left him, and over 90 percent of the legislators want him impeached, but barring a called session, they can't do so until next year's meeting.

So the adulterous governor has decided to do some outing of his own. He claims that if he is removed, his successor, Lt. Governor André Bauer, is a gay man. The governor is trying to make the people of his state decided between a married adulterous man and a possible gay man. He thinks this is a moral issue, but only would it be a moral decision in his desperate mind and in the weakest of religious minds in his state.

For the record, there have been gay rumors about André Bauer, but to date he has not been caught tapping his feet at other men in airport bathrooms.
