Now available on DVD, "I Love You, Man" is a "buddy movie" about a straight guy (Paul Rudd) without any close male friends. In short, it is a movie about male bonding with both the expected and unexpected humor. (At Right: Paul Rudd in a tantalizing pose.)
The film is not without it its gay moments as when on one of the Rudd's "man dates," the other guys turns out to be gay, and.. (no spoilers here). Also, the brother is gay and played by the toothsome Andy Samberg of "Saturday Night Live," and it is not with its lovely irony when the gay brother coaches the straight bother on how to meet other men.
Like all good "chick" or "buddy" flicks, the film meanders its way through some socially torturous scenes that cause both laughter and embarrassment to the viewers as they remember their personal pitfalls in the quest for friendships.
One may complain that from the beginning that the viewer can see where the movie is going, but as in life, it is all about the fun of the ride, and "I Love You, Man" is a delightful and exciting ride for any man, gay or straight.
