When People Go to School More, They Go to Church Less?

An article in the Washington Post quotes studies that claims the more education a person has, the less likely he attends church or prays.

The same article helps explain by the USA remains so tenaciously religious. Apparently, when there is a government sponsored religion, e.g. the UK, Spain, and Ireland people are actually less religious. In a secular government like the US, religions have to be more competitive and aggressive to survive. It is rather like religion capitalism.

Two thought some to mind: First, the great irony here is that the right wing nuts in the US are always trying to make our government more "Christian" while its being not so has made religion stronger.

Second, the mainline denominations insist on higher education requirements for their clergy, which apparently pushes them to non belief. More than ever clergymen are coming out of the believing closet and admitting they are atheists. (See Photo Above) There are even websites now for atheist clergy and rabbis, some of whom have left the church while others are still trying to get out.
