attoos in the minds of many have been associated with masculinity and manliness. This was especially true in the case of photographers who seem to have a passion for tattooed men. People who like their men hairy may look in vain in older pictures for hairy chests. In early photography hairy bodies did not photograph as well as smooth skin, and the photographers could not achieve the lighting effects they wanted unless they had simple, smooth surfaces, so the models had to shave it off. Hairless (or shaved) models became a standard and continued to dominate nude male pictures until long after the time when good cameras could photograph hunky, hairy men. It seems like a case where limited technology set the sexual tastes of men.
