When the Sistine Chapel and this painting were "restored" in the 20th Century, there was some discussion about removing the crotch covering and restoring it to Michelangelo's original nude painting, but Vatican officials voted no. Apparently, penises are resurrected from the dead with the body, and loincloths are resurrected to cover them!
