However, his navel shows quite clearly, which would not have been necessary had he been created, as the Bible says, from dirt. No matter. Both religion and art suffer dreadfully if taken quite literally.

         

bove the center west door to the National Cathedral (Washington, DC) is the great sculpture (above) showing the creation of "humankind" out of chaos. Ignoring the Genesis account, the artist has men and women created simultaneously. Curiously, the women are full breasted with even their nipples standing out. None of the men are given genitalia. So while the sculpture is politically correct in recognizing the sexual equality of women, men are once again artistically castrated. One has to wonder why artists, churches, and societies can look easily upon a tit but not a dick.
